  • Cracked Screen? Here's What to Do Before You Panic

A cracked screen is one of the most stressful things that can happen to a phone — but it's rarely as bad as it looks. Before you assume the worst, here's what to check and why acting quickly matters more than the crack itself.

A crack that only affects the glass is usually a simple, affordable fix. Waiting is what turns it into a bigger repair.

Start by checking whether the touchscreen still responds normally across the whole display, and whether the picture underneath the glass looks clear with no dark patches, discoloration, or lines. If touch response and picture quality are fine and it's "just" the glass that's cracked, that's the best-case scenario — a straightforward screen replacement. If the display flickers, shows lines, or parts of the touchscreen don't respond, the damage may go deeper than the glass.

Why waiting makes it worse

A cracked screen isn't just a cosmetic issue. Dust and moisture can work their way into the crack and reach the internal components, glass shards can spread as the crack grows, and a compromised screen is more vulnerable to a second drop causing much more serious damage. What starts as an affordable glass replacement can turn into a full display or internal repair if left too long — so it's worth booking a phone repair or getting a free diagnostic sooner rather than later.
